Thursday, February 20, 2020 Class Learning Agenda and News

Important News:

We will be on a delayed opening (two hours) due to potentially icy conditions in the morning.  Please stay tuned to the district webpage and local media for any updates in the morning.

Assuming we are able to come in, here is some helpful information to plan your arrival:

  • Doors will open for students at 9:30
  • Students report to HR 10:13-10:20

Please check our Canvas announcement for any assignments should we have a digital learning day from home.


Today, Period 8-1

  1.  Warm-Up
  2.  15 Minutes of Reading Time with your Independent Reading book
  3.  Write a letter to Ms. Hamilton about what you read today (see below)
  4.  Check and correct yesterday’s “Deconstruct the Essay” activity together
  5.  Begin the argumentative essay Question Trail


Today, Period 8-4

  1.  Warm Up
  2.  Finish checking and correcting your “Deconstruct the Essay” work from yesterday (together as a class)
  3.  Lunch
  4. Argumentative Essay Question Trail
  5.  Remaining Time:  Chose what you need to do today:  read your book, work on Membean, work on Actively Learn, or work on your Poetry Tuesday presentation

Today, Periods 8-5 and 8-6

  1.  Warm Up
  2.  Complete the “Deconstruct the Essay” activity
  3. Check and correct yesterday’s “Deconstruct the Essay” activity together

Period 8-1

  1.   Finish the collaborative analysis activity of our argumentative “texts” from our gallery walk on Friday.
  2.  Groups share out their collaborative 3-2-1 reflection.
  3.  Review notes on argumentative writing structure.
  4.  Deconstructing Essay 1 activity (independent work) –turn in work before you leave class.

 


Period 8-4

  1.  1st 15 minutes before lunch:  time to read your library book/choice reading book or one of our class poem books.
  2.   After lunch, complete our 2nd half warm up with argumentative writing structure.
  3.  Review notes on argumentative writing structure.
  4.  Deconstructing Essay 1 activity (independent work) .
  5. Table talk about your deconstruction activity.
  6.  Begin to review as a class the correct answers for our deconstructing the essay activity.  We will finish tomorrow.

Periods 8-5 and 8-6

  1.  Assign table groups for 3-2-1 collaborative anlaysis of an argumentative text activity ( continuing what we did on Friday).
  2. Groups share out their collaborative 3-2-1 reflection
  3. Gimkit game (pairs or on your own) of Greek and Latin root words
