Reminders for Weekend of November 6 + Looking Ahead to November 9-16

Today we worked on station tasks; everyone started with Station 1 since revision or submissions are due tonight at 11:59 PM.  This work was assigned over a week ago, and I will grade all work on Saturday.

  • Students may work on the stations this weekend, Monday, and/or Tuesday.   All station work must be finished by the end of class Tuesday; students will turn in the checklists with my stamps or stickers and should not misplace them.  Students should also keep up with all hard copy work for stations, especially Station 3 work that will be part of our “speed dating” discussions about the short story “The Black Cat” on Wednesday, 11/11.
  • Keep in mind that Monday is also a day students may work on 2nd quarter book projects; these projects (will be a test grade) are due 11/13 and have been available to students for a month.     Students may also work on the project Thursday in class (November 12) if needed.
  • Tuesday students may finish stations if needed; we also have a Canvas writing and reflection assignment over “The Black Cat” that day as well.
  • I have several students, including most students in Period 8-6, who have not completed any minutes in Membean since October 20.  Starting next week, we’ll be transitioning to Membean practice counting as a grade; students will need to complete two (2) 15 minutes sessions each week.  I usually provide one day of class, but students will need to do the other day at home.  Your child can show you his/her dashboard, and it will clearly state if they’ve met the time goal or not.
  • Progress reports go home on Thursday, November 12 for all students in all classes.

Below is a summary of important upcoming dates and assignments as well as preview of next week in class.  If you have questions, please email me at buffy.hamilton@hallco.org.

Important Reminders and Upcoming Deadlines: November 5, 2020

Please take time to review and read all reminders; please email me at buffy.hamilton@hallco.org if you have questions.

November is a busy month for us!  Please read and follow up on these reminders:

1.  Have you checked your “Black Cat” assignment in the last 24 hours to see if you still need to revise Question 4 or 7 in www.activelylearn.com (Links to an external site.)  ?    If not, please do so–you need to score proficient or advanced on each question to be cleared.  All work–new or revised–is due Friday, November 6 at 11:59.  We have had well over a week, including class time, to complete this task.

2.  You will need to finish reading your Independent Reading Project Book for Quarter 2 by Monday, November 9.

3.  Your project over your 2nd quarter book is due Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11:59 PM.  Submit in class if you are worried about submitting correctly.  The assignment is open now and available for you to work on as needed:  https://hallco.instructure.com/courses/59491/assignments/1803770  ; remember this is a test grade for effort, completion, and accuracy.

4.  We will take a test over your book on Monday, November 16.
5.  Test over “The Black Cat” will be Friday, 11/13.
6.  Be sure to complete 15 minutes of Membean by Sunday, November 8 (11:59 PM) if you have not done a 15 minute session in class or at home this week.

7.  1st Period Students Only:  please bring one canned good for the food drive on Friday, 11/6.
