Hamilton 8th Language Arts

Today we worked on two formative assessments of our independent reading:

1.  One task asks students to fill in the rectangle with everything they know about their book and reading time from yesterday and last night.  Students could use bulleted text and sketches; they are also allowed to “chunk” and organize their thinking and ideas they want to share.  I have included some examples completed by students in today’s photo gallery.
2. The second task asks students to identify various elements of their chapter(s) they read yesterday and last night.  Students may finish this piece at home and/or after the SRI test on Monday.  I recommend working on this assignment on home so that students don’t feel rushed to finish Monday after the SRI test.

Today we worked on Post-It note annotations for our independent reading time.  Please see the slideshow and photos below to see what we did.  Several students will need to do additional reading time and thinking time to complete their Post-It note annotations, which are due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

All students should bring their library books again tomorrow.

• If you did not vote for your top book choices yesterday, you should do that first today.
• If you did not get the Quickwrite 3, Cycle 3 assignment yesterday, come see Ms. Hamilton.
• Complete your drafting template for Quickwrite 3, Cycle 3.   Show Ms. Hamilton when finished. 
• Once I clear your draft, write a final polished draft by hand or type in Google Docs. If typing, be sure to include your name and Quickwrite 3, Cycle 3 at the top of the page. Share with Ms. Hamilton for printing.
• Turn in your gold and yellow sheets with final draft.
• 15 minutes of Membean
• Book Fair Visit

1.  If you did not complete your drafting template, you should do so at home this evening.
2.  If you began typing your final draft but did not finish, you may finish Monday 12/9 in the computer lab after our SRI/Lexile test.
3.  If you did not get in 15 minutes of Membean today, you may do so at home, Friday if you finish your work early, OR Monday after the SRI/Lexile test.
