Today we are submitting the final and revised drafts of our “Extended Narrative–Continue the Story” stories.  Depending on what time students finish, he/she is doing one or more of the following items today.  Any tasks not completed will be finished Wednesday or Thursday at the very latest:

  1.  Self-Assessment Reflections in Canvas (a survey in Google Forms)
  2.  Assemble process work using organizing tools from Ms. Hamilton
  3. Work on Formatting Dialogue and Flow Quotes + Capitalizing Quotes Mastery Practice in NoRedInk (you’ll have a few days to complete this mastery practice module).

Coming up tomorrow:  Common Assessment on Short Story skills in CommonLit.

Today we worked on our first full day of acting upon our revisions and additions to our stories based on the revision tasks we did last Thursday and Friday.  Students had the entire period to revise and polish their drafts.

All drafts will be completed tomorrow within the first 30 minutes of class.

Coming Up This Week:

  • Tuesday, 9/17: Finish final draft; turn in process work (station work, printed rough draft, story planners) using the checklist I will provide you. Complete writing self-evaluation and then work on NoRedInk module on Formatting Dialogue and Flow Quotes + Capitalizing Quotes Mastery Practice
  • Wednesday, 9/18: Common Assessment on Short Story Reading Skills in Common Lit; finish the survey from Tuesday if needed and work on the NoRedInk module.
  • Thursday, 9/19: Annotation strategies mini-lesson; begin reading “Thank You Ma’m” by Langston Hughes in Common Lit and completing the assigned tasks in Common Lit.
  • Friday, 9/20: Finish “Thank You Ma’m” assignment in Common Lit and begin working on “Thank You Ma’am” Story Analysis Brochure

Today ALL classes made significant progress on our revision strategies.  Students were able to pick and choose the remaining revision strategies/stations they felt would help them best move forward with their work.

Here is a look at the upcoming week:

  • Monday, 9/16:  Revising and polishing the final draft of our “Extended Narrative–Continuing the Story” writing assignment
  • Tuesday, 9/17:  Finish final draft; turn in process work (station work, printed rough draft, story planners) using the checklist I will provide you.

You should continue reading your independent reading library book /choice reading at home and during PUSH days.  You’ll be completing a mini-project on the book of your choice at the end of the month.
