Important:  Homework for All Classes!

Today:  Literary Nonfiction and Memoir Book Club Meeting 1

Today we held our first book club meetings with our literary nonfiction and memoir books!  Clubs met and discussed for 15-20 minutes; we then completed some post-club meeting reflections and activities.  I will grade all book club reading notes, four square conversation points, and post-meeting reflections this weekend.

Important:  students who were absent for the book club meeting will need to do a 10 minute recording in Flipgrid (available on Launchpoint) or Seesaw discussing their reading notes and thinking about the reading for their book for January 9-16.  The book club discussion is a performance assessment summative grade.  You may  do this from home, or you will complete the task during War Time with Ms. Hamilton on Tuesday, 1/21.

Thursday, January 16, 2020 Daily Class Blog Learning Agenda and Announcements

Today all classes spent time working on their reading notes for tomorrow’s first book club meeting.  If your child has not finished the  reading notes using notetaking strategy 1, 2, 3, or 4, he/she must complete these tonight–they count as a quiz grade.  I reviewed these Monday and again yesterday (Wednesday) in class.  In addition, I have shown all classes and students where to find the help video if they needed to see the mini-lesson again or were not sure what to do.  It is posted both on this blog as well as the announcement section of Canvas.

Students who completed notes could also complete the book club meeting prep sheet we reviewed in class today.

Here are the things students need to have completed tonight and ready for tomorrow:

  1.  Completed the assigned reading for this week for his/her book; every child has a reading schedule for his/her book club book.
  2.  Complete and thorough reading notes using one of the four strategies reviewed twice in class this week and available virtually.  Quiz grade.
  3.  Bring the book club book.
  4.  Complete the prep sheet issued today (talking points)–daily grade.
  5. Be ready to be an active participant and listener in the book club meeting tomorrow—test grade.

Today students received information about the CHS Career Tech Parent Information meeting happening next Thursday, January 23.  See the flyer below for more information.
