Poetry Tuesday

Today we began with our first ever Poetry Tuesday presentations.  Students presented a self-selected poem from our class resources, read the poem aloud, and completed the reflections.  Students were expected to bring a hard copy of the poem as well as the reflections.  All students have a copy of the presentation schedule.

  • We begin our argumentative writing unit on WEdnesday
  • Spring pictures on Wednesday
  • Progress reports go home Wednesday
  • Complete a 2nd Membean session of 15 minutes by 11:59 PM on Sunday, February 16.

Monday, February 10, 2020 Class Learning Agenda and Class News

Today we are in the 8th grade computer lab.  We have new computer lab seat assignments, so please come check with Ms. Hamilton before you sit at a computer station.  Thank you!

1.  Complete 15 minutes of Membean.

2.  Complete this important survey for yearbook (Links to an external site.).

3.  Have you signed up for Actively Learn (Links to an external site.)?  If not, you must do so today.  Complete the first assignment on the corona virus.  If you have finished the first assignment, complete the second assignment on Jason Reynolds.  If questions call for multiple answers and textual evidence, be sure to include BOTH.

  • To sign up, go to the link above for Actively Learn and click the white button in the lower right side that says student sign up.
  • Sign up with Google.  You will sign up with your HallCo Google account, so there should be no information for you to enter.
  • Enter the class code for YOUR class period (you can copy and paste!); be sure to join the CORRECT CLASS!
  • Period 8-1:  ahkcs

4.  Work on Poetry Tuesday assignment:  presenting tomorrow

Special Edition of Our Learning Agenda and Class News: Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7

Thursday, February 6

We spent half the class working on one of the following activities:

  • Membean
  • Actively Learn assignment
  • Classroom learning space design survey
  • Working on upcoming Poetry Tuesday presentations (browsing poems, writing poems, working on reflections for our presentations—-every student has a copy of the presentations for each Tuesday between now and the first week of March)
  • Library books:  completing the completed or abandoned book survey, getting new choice reading books, working on reading goal bookmarks for new books, returning and renewing library books or books in our classroom library with Ms. Hamilton

1st and 4th period book clubs had an opportunity to meet and do some discussion and reflections about their books clubs and topics for discussion with the whole class for Friday, February 7.  Periods 5 and 6 completed individual reflections and submitted topics for discussions.

 

Friday, February 7

We completed our ConverSTATIONS activity across multiple book clubs.   We started in pairs or groups of 3 and met for roughly 4-5 minutes to discuss topic 1.  Some students rotated to the next group and were designated “movers” by Ms. Hamilton.  We then did our 2nd round of discussions.  We completed this activity for six rounds of discussion.  Period 8-1 completed a reflection about their discussions; Period 4, 5, and 6 wrote a literary argument paragraph.  Kudos to all classes for excellent discussions and work today!

Coming Up:

  • Homework:  Finish your 2nd round of Membean by 11:59 on Sunday, February 9
  • Work on your poetry Tuesday presentation
  • Read your choice/independent reading book

On Monday, February 10, we will meet in the 8th grade computer lab across from our room.  You will have all period to work on Membean, Actively Learn, and your Poetry Tuesday project.
